Ribonucleic Acid Composition of Rat Liver Tumor
نویسندگان
چکیده
Studies on normal tissues have suggested that the ribonucleic acid (RNA) of nuclei, mitochon dna, microsomes, and supernatant fluid isolated from tissue homogenate has a characteristic nu cleotide composition (7, 8, 16), while other data did not support such a view (6). Results obtained in this laboratory revealed, in fact, the occurrence of characteristic ribonucleic acids in rat liver frac tions prepared from sucrose homogenate (13, 15). In the present investigation, the study was ex tended to cell fractions of primary liver tumors in duced by 4-dimethylaminoazobenzene. The re salts indicated that, in liver tumors, the ribonu cleic acids from the different cellular fractions are less heterogeneous than in normal liver.

1. Rat-liver microsomes, ribonucleoprotein particles and a fraction mainly consisting of microsomal membranes were tested for their ability to incorporate amino acids into protein in the presence of ATP, GTP, phosphoenolpyruvate and pyruvate kinase. Addition of polyuridylic acid or of ribonucleic acid from rat-liver nuclei stimulated the incorporating activities. 2. These protein-synthesizing s...
متن کاملRibonucleic Acid Composition in Cytoplasmic Fractions Isolated from Rat Liver Cells
Differences in ribonudeic acid (RNA) composition were observed by various authors between the liver cell fractions isolated by differential centrifugation. While authors generally agree that the nuclear R N A differs from the cytoplasmic RNA, disagreement exists with respect to the composition of the R N A isolated from cytoplasmic fractions (1-8). Such analysis was usually carried out on three...
متن کاملThe composition of ribonucleic acid and deoxyribonucleic acid of normal and neoplastic tissue.
The essential role of nucleic acids as prototypes, templates, or as carriers of coded information in biological processes has become progressively significant. In the concept of cancer the importance of the nucleic acids has become generally accepted. Differences in the composition of nucleic acids of normal and neoplastic tissues would be of fundamental importance, for they would provide a bio...
متن کاملLocalization of deoxyribonucleic acid complementary to ribosomal ribonucleic acid and preribosomal ribonucleic acid in the nucleolus of rat liver.
The fraction and distribution of DNA complementary to ribosomal RNA and preribosomal RNA was investigated by the technique of molecular hybridization with the DNA of isolated nucleoli and nuclei of rat liver. Nuclear DNA complementary to ribosomal 18 S RNA and 28 S RNA was 0.014% and 0.032%, respectively. Nucleolar DNA complementary to ribosomal 18 S RNA and 28 S RNA was 0.10% and 0.22%, respec...

Ochoa and his collaborators (6) have shown that cell-free extracts of certain bacteria can be used to accomplish the net synthesis of polynucleotides resembling ribonucleic acid (RNA)1 from purine and pyrimidine nucleoside diphosphates. The net synthesis of RNA by cell-free prepara tions from animal tissues has not been reported. However, renewal or turnover of RNA components in preparations fr...
